Landmine Incident in Battambang Injures Local Man

Battambang, April 1, 2024 – A tragic accident occurred on March 30, 2024, in Phnom Ray village, Ta Tok commune, Samlot district, of Battambang province, where a 62-year-old man sustained injuries from a landmine. The individual, identified as Chi Khan, also known by the name Ta Sak Sar, suffered injuries to his right leg due to the explosion. He is currently receiving medical treatment at the Battambang Provincial Referral Hospital.

This unfortunate event has prompted the Mines Authority to issue a strong caution to all residents. The authority urges the public to avoid entering areas known for landmine presence without consulting local officials. Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of not interacting with any landmines or unexploded ordnance (UXO) and to immediately report such findings to the relevant authorities and demining units for safe removal.

The incident highlights the ongoing danger posed by landmines and UXO in certain regions of Cambodia, underscoring the critical need for continued awareness and preventive measures to safeguard communities against these hidden threats.
